What will the apprentice be doing?

Apprentice Dental Nurse to work in a modern family friendly NHS dental practice. As a dental nurse your duties will include:

• Assisting the dentist in performing dental procedures
• Supporting and reassuring patients
• In addition to providing chairside assistance to the dentist, all nurses spend time assisting at the reception desk
• General administration work, including filing and maintaining patient records

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

• Dental Nurse Apprenticeship Standard Level 3
• Functional Skills in English and Maths (Level 2) if required
• Practical training in surgery
• Infection control, Health and Safety, Medical Emergencies, dental materials and anatomy training

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The right candidate could move into a variety of careers following successful completion of the apprenticeship, including:

• Dental therapist or dental hygienist
• Practice Manager
